Golden Age of Aviation-
In June 1927, Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic began the Golden Age of Aviation. There were record-breaking flights with many individuals who transformed aviation into one of the great industries of the twentieth century. The Golden Age ended twenty years later with Howard Hughes' flying boat, the "Spruce Goose."
Today, there are many international flights. Without Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic, we may not know if it is possible to fly a 33 hour, non-stop flight.
The Great Depression-
The Depression originated in the United States, when the stock market crashed on October 20, 1029. That day became known as "Black Tuesday." With the crash of the stock market, economic problems spread to almost every country in the world. The Great Depression had devastating effects in virtually every country. No matter if you were rich or poor, you suffered from this Depression. Tax revenue, profits, and prices dropped. Unemployment in the United States rose to 25% and as high as 33% in other nations. U.S. manufacturing fell 54%.
The Depression lasted nearly ten years. It is the longest and most severe depression ever experienced by industrialized western world.
Today, we are experiencing a recession which is not as bad as The Great Depression, but could easily get to that stage. The unemployment rate today is 10.4% and the President is implementing different reforms trying to help with recovering our economy.
